Project Name: Live Band Recording For S.O.A.P
(First Year Project)
Song: Dalai Lama
Duration: 1 Day
The group consist of Joshua, JJ (the band's drummer) and myself. This live recording took us 5 hours to record a 7 member band as well as dubbing the vocals. We contacted the band SOAP (Son Of A Policeman) an indie band and recorded three songs for them. Refreshments were provided and markings were placed on the floor to eliminate any confusion and ease the flow of recording.
I would say that the recording session went well and we manage to record all three songs in a night. We also manage to eliminate the problems that came about such as buzzing sounds coming from faulty wires. The drums set up we used were excellent for live recordings also because of the small diaphragms microphones we used helped minimise the bleed as much as possible. Would certainly use this set up for future live recordings. What I also learn in this process is that you always have to be on your toes at all times.
I was the engineer and producer for this particular song named Dalai Lama. In this song there are bass, drums, vocals, violin and 2 electric guitars. Vocal dubbing were recorded after the live recording of the instruments. Microphone such as the AKG, Slate and SM58 were used in this recording. Some challenges I had to face was fixing the timing of the electric guitar by using flex time and re-record some violin notes by using logic's midi. This project was a challenging yet educational.
